A much overdue followup!

Well, this year has gone by so super fast. I have a client-printed invitation that was sent to me this summer that I am JUST NOW getting around to photographing! It helps that I have a new camera. Oh well.

This is a custom DIY invitation I designed for Anna and Salim’s bicycle themed wedding at Irish Creek Farm in Lac Ste-Marie. When I met with Anna about this project at Illume Espresso Bar in Westboro, we ended up talking about anything and everything for a very long time! I seem to always get the best clients. Since their wedding was to be in a rural area, with different groups of people staying at different cottages and chalets, we made a pretty detailed custom map for the event. It even shows you where you can find wine, owls, and deer! And it was red and mint – so in this year. I was super happy with it, and Anna and Salim said they got tons of compliments on the set as well! See pictures below for more details.

Shannon & Mat’s Classic Chateau Fete

RSVP postcard, program, dessert invite and invitation

Shocker – a blog post!! It must mean invite season is winding down…

Yes, things have been pretty whirlwind here at Casa 6, what with some traveling, houseguests, major renos and a jam-packed wedding season, updates have been few and far between! But that’s all about to change. I finally had a chance to take some quick photos of a custom invitation suite I developed for Shannon and Mathieu, a lovely couple that I met at WedByHand last year.

It was refreshing to work with a couple with even more austere tastes than myself – I would send them a concept and they would say something like “We really love it, but we’d love it even more if you just took out that line.” Dieter Rams – Less is More! In any case, I think we arrived together at some lovely work.

I am certain their wedding at the Chateau Laurier this past May was more than lovely. We developed these cute programs with a few different moustaches on the back for photo ops. Moustaches are so in this year! Also, I heard through the Ottawa wedding grapevine that Bridget from First Kiss Films shot their wedding film; she does the most amazing work! I will definitely keep an eye out for that when it is finished so I can share the link.

For now, a few photos of some pieces of their suite, a modern yet classic, typography heavy black and white invitation set featuring lots and lots of Bodoni! Such a pretty typeface. Onwards! (More pictures after the jump.)

Leah and Chris’s East Meets West Wedding

Posted April 13th, 2012 in Custom Projects, News by daniellegrace

Through the magic of site stats, I just found a shot of some table numbers I designed as a part of Leah and Chris’s invitation suite! I saw that Leah wrote a review on the (now sadly defunct) site CMN Bride! The writer, Cindy, had found a cool Ottawa wedding niche – profiles and reviews from couples that had been married at the Canadian Museum of Nature!

Leah wrote a great piece, and there were pictures! Gorgeous pictures, by Julie Hahn:

I have a picture of their suite as well – not a great one though, as I was just showing them their proof online. Now that I have access to a big camera, I can take some proper documentation shots! But for now, this one shows the modern mandala motif that we used throughout the suite. And it was all based on this concept, if you can believe it!

Another interesting thing to note about Leah and Chris’s wedding is that it took place on the same day as mine, which was incidentally also an “East Meets West” wedding of sorts! And Leah’s wedding took place in the Salon at the Canadian Museum of Nature, where I had recently spent many an hour aiming the lights just so, as part of my day job with Gabriel Mackinnon! Our weddings were doppelgangers. In any case – they were so great to work with and I wish them buckets of happiness!

OK – back to work. No more internet rabbit holes for me. Speak soon!

Ava & Ari’s Custom Wedding Invitation Suite

Posted March 31st, 2012 in Custom Projects, News by daniellegrace

This post is muy overdue! We designed a customized invitation suite for Ava and Ari last year – they were married December 18th 2011 in Brooklyn. They found us through the magic of Google, and if I do say, we got on like a house on fire. They were unflaggingly positive and so excited about everything I sent them!

Following are some lovely photos of their invites from their talented photographer, Brad Ross:
